Vibrations Animations – Automobile
The animation below shows a simulation of the response of an automobile (modeled as a very exciting rigid bar) to an initial displacement at its front wheels. The motion of the vehicle has a complicated temporal pattern.
Modal analysis can be used to decompose the response shown above into the two responses shown below, each corresponding to a mode of vibration of the vehicle. The motion of the vehicle is made up of two motions, each of which is simple to understand and model. This type of analysis is used to understand the vibration behavior of structures ranging bridges to airplanes to micro-sensors.
